The element of Water is represented in our workout through flexibility and circulation. The blood in our body is primarily made up of water, and plasma has approximately the same salt and ion content as seawater. By increasing our flexibility and improving our blood circulation, we are better able to distribute oxygen throughout the body and remove toxins and waste from our system. This exercise is to help you improve your circulation and flexibility, ideally done near sunset as Water is the element of Twilight, but can be done anytime you want to gently stretch your muscles. This exercise will take a minimum of 4 to 8 minutes but can be longer, the duration is up to you.

Stand facing the west with legs shoulder width apart and arms by your side. Close your eyes and turn your focus inward towards your heart and lungs. Take a deep breath and say

Guardians of the West, Guardians of Water

I summon your power to increase my flexibility and improve my circulation

Thank you for the blood which flows through my veins and cleanses my body

I grow stronger and healthier with each beat of my heart

So mote it be

Take a deep breath and as you exhale, bend forward at the waist with your hands stretching out in from of you until your torso and arms are parallel to the floor. Inhale, then as you exhale, rotate your torso  to the right, keeping your arms stretched out and reach as far to the right as you comfortable can. Inhale, then as you exhale, lift your left shoulder up and back so your head and torso are facing forward, bending your body to the right side as far as you comfortably can. Inhale, and as you exhale, straighten your bady back upright to your starting position. Repeat the sequence, this time bending forward, then rotating to your left side, then moving into a left side bend before returning to an upright position. Repeat the entire sequence two more times.

Once you have completed three circuits of right and left, inhale and stretch your arms over your head. Exhale and stretch your arms and torso slowly backward into a gentle back bend, going as far as you comfortable can. Inhale and bring your body back up to starting position with your arms at your side. On your next exhale, bend slowly forward at the waist and let your hands drop towards the floor, touching the ground if you are able to. Take one deep breath inward and as you exhale, try to deepen your stretch toward the floor, going as far as you comfortably can. Inhale and return to your original upright position. Repeat the sequence of backward and forward stretches two more times.

Once you have completed three circuits of backward and forward, return to your original upright position. Take one deep cleansing breath inward and blow your exhalation out forcibly and quickly. To close the meditation, say

Thank you Guardians of the West, Guardians of Water.

Thank you for the gift of flexibility

Return to the West, return to the sea. I bid you hail and farewell.
