The element of Air is represented in our workout as breath, and it is vital to be able to breathe properly, not just when working out but throughout the day. Deep breathing decreases stress and oxygenates the body, giving you more energy. This exercise is ideally performed first thing in the morning, as Air is the element of the East and Beginnings, but any time you can take to focus on your breathing will be beneficial. This exercise will take a minimum of 3 to 5 minutes, but can be longer, the duration is up to you.

Sit comfortably facing east in a straight back position, either on the floor or in a chair with your feet on the floor. Close your eyes and turn your focus to your breathing. Inhale through your nose for a slow count of 3, then say

Guardians of the East, Guardians of Air

Exhale any remaining breath. Inhale again through your nose for a slow count of 3, then say

I summon your power to aid with my breath

Exhale any remaining breath. Again inhale for a slow count of 3, then say

Thank you for the dawn of a new day, thank you for the air I breathe

Exhale any remaining breath. Again inhale for a slow count of 3, then say

I grow stronger and healthier with each breath I take. So mote it be.

Now deepen your breaths, inhaling through the nose for a slow count of 5 and exhaling through your mouth for a slow count of 8. Focus on filling your chest all the way down to your diaphragm when inhaling and expelling every bit of breath from your lungs on your exhalation. Repeat a minimum of 8 times, and more if you wish. For your last breath, inhale as deeply as you possibly can, then blow the air out forcibly and quickly. To close your meditation, say

Thank you, Guardians of the East, Guardians of Air. Thank you for the power of breath. Return to the East, return to the sky, I bid you hail and farewell.
